The 2nd biggest photovoltaic power plant - Orly – France

Soprasolar® duo is building the second biggest rooftop photovoltaic power plant in the Ile de France region (September 2009).
A few months ago, the company AXE OUEST took possession of the second biggest rooftop solar power plant in the Ile de France region, at Orly (94), with a capacity of 242 kWp, or an expected production of 207 MWh (megawatt) per year.
The process used is Soprasolar® duo, installed by AE (Acieco Étanchéité - 92 Marnes la Coquette) for the waterproofing part, and by SYS E.N.R. for the engineering and electrical connection of the power plant.
The Soprasolar® duo waterproofing membrane, marketed by SOLARDIS, consists of a bilayer bituminous system made by French waterproofing specialists SOPREMA, into which UNI-SOLAR® photovoltaic modules are incorporated.
This photovoltaic array consists of 1,864 flexible cells covering a surface of about 8,000 m². Thanks to this technical solution, the building owner has transformed his roof, which needed to be renovated, into a profit centre. The project is profitable because the power is bought by EDF at the rate of 0.60 Euros/kWh, guaranteed for 20 years. This solar power plant gives the building owner the benefit of reinforced waterproofing, coupled with twice-yearly maintenance over the operational lifespan of the latter. The building is an 8,000 m² storage warehouse.

Energy optimisation of the building

Lightweight, attractive and strong, Soprasolar® duo is an ideal solution, for both new build and renovation projects, to take advantage of the large surfaces offered by all inaccessible flat roofs.
The work began at the beginning of September 2008, for delivery in 2009. Thanks to the Soprasolar® duo bilayer system, the building was weathertight before the winter, allowed the scheduling of the work to be optimised.
Within a few months, AE had completely renovated the roof with steel deck, insulation and bilayer waterproofing, and had installed the Sopasolar flexible photovoltaic cells. At the same time, SYS E.N.R. connected up the cells and prepared the electric panels and inverters.
